What Are The Features Of The Black & Decker ASI300 Air Station 12-Volt or 120-Volt Inflator?

For starters, here is what you get with the ASI300:

Inflates lawnmower, bike, and vehicle tires, sports balls, and other items quickly and easily
Space-saving, portable design
EZ air dial for instant shut-off when correct air pressure has been reached
Weighs 6.1 pounds; 2-year warranty
Includes standard tire nozzle, needle inflator, and extension nozzle

This versatile and portable mini-compressor will basically inflate anything you have around the house or encounter on the road.  The compact size makes for easy storage in your vehicle or home.  One of our favorite features of this new generation inflators like the Black & Decker as well as the Slime 40022 12-Volt Digital Tire Inflator, is that they come standard with an auto shutoff.  All you need to do is set your desired PSI and the unit automatically shuts off when it reaches your desired inflation.

Unlike the lower priced Slime 40022 12-Volt Digital Tire Inflator, the Black and Decker ASI300 works in a standardBlack & Decker ASI300 Air Station 12-Volt or 120-Volt Inflator Review home plug as well as in a cigarette lighter.  For a slightly higher price, you get substantially more usability.  If you currently have a home compressor like the Goodyear i8000 120-Volt Direct Drive Tire Inflator, then you would be better off with a car only inflator.

In reviewing many automotive products, we find that standard warranties normally run 1 year. With this small air compressor, you get a 2 year warranty along with a weight of only 6 pounds.  Black & Decker is one of the best known names in tools and has a great reputation which means if you do have any problems, they will be right there for you.

What Are The Positives And Negatives Of The Black & Decker ASI300?

Let’s review the positives first.  You get the unusual feature of both 12v and 120v options to power up the Black and Decker portable air compressor.  This is a great feature as it allows you the option to use it around the house or on the road.  You get light weight as well as a 2 year warranty from a top notch company.  You also get a built in pressure gauge with a pre-set automatic shutoff.

On the negative side, the AC plug is very short and pretty much ensures you will need an extension chord to use it around the house.  Fortunately, the car lighter chord is plenty long enough when combined with the included air hose so you will not have that problem.  It seems like Black & Decker did this to allow enough room in the built in storage compartment to fit all the chords and hose.

There were several complaints about the plastic connector and the possibility that it may break during use.  Most users had no problem with it but it has been mentioned.  There were also some comments on noise but in our experience, all of these small air compressors generate a significant amount of noise as well as heat.

Any time we review portable air compressors, we find negative comments about the time it takes to fill a flat tire.  It is certainly relative but more importantly this is an emergency tire inflator that you can also use around the house.  If you are looking for a more powerful, purpose built air compressor, you may want to consider something like the PORTER-CABLE 3.5-Gallon 135 PSI Pancake Compressor which is more expensive but is a portable air compressor built for home use.

Is The Black & Decker ASI300 Air Station 12-Volt or 120-Volt Inflator A Buy Or A No Buy?

What are you looking for in a tire inflator?  If you are looking for a small compressor you can throw in the trunk in case of an emergency but also use around the house to top off tires and blow up basketballs, then the Black and Decker Air Station is definitely something you should consider.  If you frequently need a powerful air compressor to fill flat tires and are interested in speed and durability, then you should look elsewhere.

What Do Customers Say About The Black And Decker 12v or 120v Inflator?

by J. Kelly

It is easy to use, effective, and convenient with its storage compartment for power cords and inflation hose. I especially like the automatic cutoff feature; I can turn it on and let it do its thing while I’m doing something else. I run my automobile tires at higher pressures than most (60 PSI), and it had no trouble with those. It takes a couple of minutes, of course, but that’s to be expected — this is not a mechanic’s air compressor, and I don’t expect that level of performance. I haven’t tried them on my higher pressure (90 PSI) bicycle Read more…

To get the best out of this machine – get a good external mechanical pressure gauge with a relief valve (you can get a decent one for under $10 at Walmart). Then set the dial on this machine to be slightly over (2-3 psi more) the pressure required (I set it to 30psi when filling my Camry which needs 29 psi). Fill the tires with air using the machine. Then use the external gauge to measure the pressure and release the air using its relief valve until the pressure is at the desired reading. Works like a charm for me.

Other than this, the machine is quite nice and with a 2 year warranty it is a good buy.
